Yes, I think that would've suited me much more. I also like to model stuff slightly differently to the mainstream. Hence the black P-70 & Olive Green "Black Widow". The Beau had to be black, the Mossie will be black & camo, the Night-Lightning gloss black.

Got a coat of Extra-Special Night Black FS 3512657 down. Nah, not really :D , just some spray-can matt-black as a base-coat/primer. The underside will be this colour, but the topsides will be camo.

And now a touch of green (Tamiya RAF Green 2, XF-81) to finish the major painting. One of the options for this model was just grey over black, but that was pretty boring, so I went with this one.

Now glossed & decalled. The decals (I still think of them as transfers  ) were a bit of a disappointment. A bit thick & took a bit of work to get softened down & conforming. Just the basic markings too, but oh well, at least they look the part. As I thought, once you put that canopy on, you can pretty-much only see the belts & barely even the PE Inst. Panel, let alone the tiny piece of I.P. decal that I struggled to put on to fill in a blank spot  .

If I cared to rush this - throw down a coat of matt & call it done - I could claim another 2016 completion, but I prefer to go slow from here & weather her up a bit. No metal chipping though :D .

Calling this one done. I frigged up a little with the paint, only putting down one coat of grey, forgetting that the spray lacquer I use tends to "melt" it a bit. So I decided to go to town with the ageing & weathering & give it a really war-weary look. A much-used aircraft operating off a muddy grass strip, I think.

Old '70's Revell Kit, Eduard PE & Masking Set, Tamiya acrylics, British Paints spray gloss lacquer, Humbrol matt lacquer, kit decals (some of which silvered badly but then settled down under the lacquer), Tamiya Panel-Line Accent & Weathering Sets (Mud, Soot, Titanium, Gunmetal etc).

As I struggle along with a couple of other projects, as light relief I pulled out this ancient Monogram Hurricane IIc. While it's a crude old kit, it's main charm is the variety of options that come in the box: bombs, rockets, tanks, radiators, trop filter, exhausts, 20mm cannon, 40mm cannon......................

I always intended to do this as the NF version but did get tempted to go the "big gun" mumma. Might have to get another one.

As there was literally NO interior to speak of - just a decal instrument panel & a head-rest - I didn't bother with any PE or after-market apart from a masking set & left the canopy closed. The build was very straight-forward so there wasn't much point in a build thread either.

All went well until decalling. The originals were toast though I managed to save the Sqn Codes & serials. Everything else is from the spares box which is where the trouble started. All the decals went down well except the wing roundels (from my Typhoon kit) which were incredibly thin & wrinkled easily. I got them down ok, but overnight they shrank, wrinkled & distorted.

So after some selective scraping, I decided to turn the Hurri into a weathering exercise, fooling around with some attempted panel-fading, chipping, staining etc. This is how she ended up.
