Night-Fighters - Arado Ar-234.

Postby RAAFBrat » Tue Jul 29, 2014 9:26 pm

I guess it's time for me to see what all the fuss is about with these Tamiya model thingies. I HAVE made one Tamiya "Model" in the distant past - a 1/18 RC 4WD Chevy Blazer I bought in Japan & built while laid up with an exploded knee in 1985 - but that was a whole differnt kettle of plastic, steel, motors, servos, gearboxes etc etc :D .

My chosen kit is the Tamiya 1/48 Beaufighter Mk VI - the Night-Fighter variant. I have a series of Night-Fighters planned including a Mosquito, Night-Lightning, Black Widow & a Hurricane. Eventually I'd like to find a BP Defiant & an early Blenheim too. Then maybe some Luftwaffe examples.

This is as far as I've gotten. I was a bit disappointed to not be able to find any painted PE for this kit, so decided to build it entirely OOB - including the decal seat-belts & instruments in the kit. Therefore the Inst. Panel is a mix of paint & decals, hopefully not too fanciful :D .

Oh, I'm thinking that the long grey tube is a speaking tube? Gosport Tubes, I think they were called? Anyone confirm?

Looking great! Can't help you regarding the speaking tube - I think I know the one you're talking about. Kind of looks like a big intercooler pipe covered with heat-wrap? I'm sure someone here will give some advice as to what it is.
Looking forward to seeing the finished result.

The long grey tube is the heater pipe.

A little more progress on the Beau. Got the innards installed along with the dinky little Observer's Instrument Panel. Now ready to close it up.
