Hasegawa 1/48 Fw-190A-4 Oblt Erich Rudorffer Tunisia Feb '43

Postby Nav76 » Mon Feb 28, 2011 7:54 pm

Hi all,

Just finished tonight, the Hasegawa Fw-190A-4 in 48 scale representing the aircraft of Oblt Erich Rudorffer as flown against the US in Tunisia in 1943. Additions are an Ultracast seat, Master metal gun barrels, and thin wire to represent brake lines. Decals from the box (surprise for me) and paints are majority Gunze with Tamiya white undercoat spray used for the white fuselage band and underside of the wingtips. Weathered with dark grey pastels and an enamel wash of a dark tan colour.

A little bit of a pain in the arse to build as it is based on the old Dragon kit with all its inherent fit problems in the cowling and wing root areas. Aparts from that most issues were my fault, most notably the constant repainting of the rear fuselage seam before I finally realised that I needed to reglue the area as the fuse kept splitting under the pressure of sanding it! The guns were a little bit of a pain too, needing careful attention in painting and fitting.

Hope you all like it, and this completes the 4th 1/48 Fw-190 completed in recent builds for me. Next, a Hasegawa Bf-190G-10, can't get enough of those Luftwaffe birds at the moment!

More pics to follow tomorrow once I get some natural light to use

Looks great Kev :) ,right up there with your other 190's.What glue are you using to attach your aerials with? You wouldn't know by looking at it that you had fit problems either, all the joins look mickey mouse to me.Look forward to seeing it on Satuday.
cheers,
Daz

Mate,

Superglue for the aerial glue, the pink zap variety, sped by with accelerator for drying. Easy to do, you just need to get yourself in position hands wise before attempting to do it. Will be bringing here along on Saturday, should look good side by side with your lovely 109.

Nice 1 Kev. Always good to see other things beside Aussie things.

Very nice 190 Kev, it looks great and the weathering is very subtle looking at it you wouldn't think the builder had any problems as it came up nice, as Andrew mentions it's always nice to see some alternative subjects. have built a few of Dragons 190's and the fit problems can give you the *hits at times. If you're going to build another Dragon or Hasegawa's later 190's I've found that a small spreader bar made from cast off sprue placed just under the cockpit area, sometimes two with the other at the front of the cockpit sized to kick out the fuselage sides a tad fixes the wing/fuselage problem, cant' remember what I did to fix the cowling area. Keep 'em coming Kev.
Looking forward to seeing the G-10, then again I'm biased towards the 109.

Cheers, Wayne :)

Hell it's getting better looking every time I look at it. Now get back to that 109 Kev.
