Showcase Models Collins Class Submarine

Postby hughb » Sun Apr 07, 2019 12:34 pm

I completed this little kit today, just waiting on a wooden base to display it on. Great kit, fits together perfectly.

Because the sub is quite drab, to add some colour I've made a base of simplified support structures (in yellow) that the sub rests on when out of the water.

I elected to make the sub at launch as I liked the 'Collins' scroll across the front of the bow. However from the photo of its launch it doesn't appear to have the name boards high on the sail, or the boat's crest at the front of the sail. It's a shame as I would have liked to add these little features in. Also the launch photo doesn't show the boat's periscopes or snorkels raised, but I've shown them to add some more detail.

A final few photos of the model on it's base.

Just for a laugh one photo shows the Collins along with Revell's (ex Moebius) 1:72 Skipjack. I've got a small photoetch set from RC Subs to finish this big kit off...stay tuned!

Looks good, I have seen this one pop up on Ebay a few times. The Skipjack looks good too.

If you're looking for a nice quick build of an Aussie subject consider getting one.Though as we were discussing on the other thread, it would add to the overflowing stash!

Yeah late last year I developed an interest in aircraft carriers and battleships so have a few of them in the stash too now! I have a German Uboat as well from years ago still unbuilt so not sure how many subs I really want in the end! Especially as floaty things might look silly suspended from the ceiling!
