1/72 CA-27 Avon Sabre Mk.30

Postby courageous » Sat Apr 06, 2019 5:40 am

Here is my recently completed Avon Sabre using the Tasman Conversion set and the Academy kit.

The gun ports were modified to the initial type and the tails section replaced to show air brakes open.
Wings were backdated to pre 6-3 configuration, flaps removed and refitted to 'deployed' position and tank pylon points moved inboard to correct position.
Brake lines added to main undercarriage and front wheel hub modified to reflect the 6-spoke type.
With the data I had, the cockpit was painted black and painted overall with Tamiya AS12.
Finished in the markings of the first production Mk.30, A94-901, RAAF, 1954/55.

Cheers guys, much appreciated. I think I have captured the essence of a early Mk.30 and I've learnt a lot.
Onwards and upwards with another four CA-27's but not just yet.

Very nicely done.

For others who wish to model the early narrow chord slatted wing I highly recommend the Red Roo resin set.
I'm not older than dirt, but I do remember when it was new.

Very nice Stuart, you got a lovely finish on your Sabre. What paint did you use?

Thanks guys.
What paint did you use?

I prime my models using Halfords Automotive primer. Painted overall with Tamiya AS12 'Bare Metal Silver'. A coat of Johnson Klear floor polish is applied before and after decals.
