1/48 Tornado GR4

Postby bell209 » Fri Aug 17, 2018 9:30 pm

Annoyingly, I bought the Revell Tornado IDS before they released a GR4 version a year or so later. I've made a start on it.

I'm using the Airfix GR4/4A for some bits (mainly stores and maybe pylons) - something else I bought too early (it's a terrible kit)! I also have the CMK gear wells, Armoury wheel set, Eduard seat belts and cockpit set, Aires exhaust nozzles (which are beautiful) and additional decals to model ZD844.

I'll be interested in watching this Rob. I've got some of the same sets for my Gr4.

I'm watching what you're up to with great interest Rob.

I think I may have done the same thing regarding IDS vs GR4

I think using the GR4 detail sets will correct some of the variant issues - I hope so, anyway!

Love a Tornado. Good start Rob, I've got an F.3 to do eventually so I'll be watching this one.

Love the Tornado. Such a rugged looking aircraft. Keep the shots coming.

Hi Rob, I got buzzed by a brace of Tornados last week near Catterick whilst on another coast to coast walk. Probably out of RAF Leeming, I thought about buying a kit for a few minutes before admitting I'd be unlikely to ever build it LOL, looking forward to see your finished product

My wife and I were buzzed by two Typhoons and two F-15Es while driving near the Mach loop when we were in Wales a few years ago - something we never get here in Oz! Always liked watching the Tornadoes blasting away when I was on deployment, too.

More work on the cockpit while I wait for the Lancaster paint to dry.

Almost finished the seats. The bowyangs (leg restraints) will be drooped over the controls in the respective pits once the seats are in.

So, had a bit of time to work on this while I wait for the paint to go off on the Lancaster. The cockpit's coming along:

Just a few little things to add (like the throttle quadrant) and it should be good to go.

Starting on the fuselage now.
