Over 800 P-40s were used by the RAAF in World War II where they were used first in North Africa. In early 1942 a ship containing 100 plus P-40Es arrived in North Queensland. Within 2 weeks they were fighting the Japanese in Papua New Guinea.
The subject of this review is Ronin Graphics P-40E RAAF 75 Squadron at Milne Bay decal set in 1/48. The same set in 1/72 should be available in the New Year. There are 8 schemes in total ranging from late to early 1942. There is only one scheme for early 1942 which has the red in the roundels. The red colour was later removed due to likely confusion with Japanese aircraft and their Hinomaru. The aircraft covered in this early scheme is A29-108 “SHUFTIE”.
The aircraft in the later scheme are:
A29-99 “CLEOPATRA”
A29-23 “BEVERLY”
A29-29 “I”
A29-136 “STARDUST”
A29-153 “ORACE”
A29-126 “POLLY”
A29-133 “Polly”

The decals themselves are silk screen printed and fit on one half of an A5 sheet. There are enough markings to make two aircraft but only if you do one in the early and the other in the late scheme. You could do more if you can find other roundels. The colours are solid with no pixilation. The black and grey numbering and letters are sharply printed. The whites look very solid and shouldn’t be translucent once applied.
Included with the decals are three A4 sized doubled sided colour placement diagrams. The majority deal with side profiles of each scheme. The last sheet has top profiles on one side whilst the other deals with the placement of data. Thankfully there is not much of that to apply! Also included is a colour reference guide. Giving multiple choices where applicable for each colour call out.
This set comes highly recommended and would look great on a 1/48 P-40E of your choosing. The set retail for AU$17 and is great value. The decals can be ordered online at their website which is located at:

Decals bought by Reviewers’ own funds.
