Enamel paint removal

Postby Shally » Fri Feb 12, 2016 3:11 pm

Hello,
Several years ago I built a Qantas B747-400 in the previous livery. I now wish to repaint it in the current livery. Does anybody have any tips as to how I can remove the old enamel paint?
Thanks.

Try a degreaser spray from supercheep or equivalent auto parts store. As the enamel is oil based, the degreaser breaks it down and you should be able to strip the model.
If there are acrylics underneath, it won't strip them though. You could try oven cleaner spray for that.
Hope that helps,
John

I found that over cleaner used to remove it easily with a bit of scrubbing and then washed off.

Been searching how to remove paint from an old Hasegawa A4 so good to pick up on this tip - tried it with Easy Off Oven Cleaner & left in a Woolies bag overnight - 90% came off with soapy water & tooth brush first go & I'm sure I will get the rest with a repeat treatment
