1/48 Monogram B24M Liberator A72-176 - Finished

Postby AndrewDoppel » Fri Oct 18, 2013 9:13 pm

Whilst I've been waiting for bits of F111 to dry I started work over the past couple of days working on the interior and other bits of this old Monogram B24J Liberators which I intend to do as A72-176, the Werribee Lib. Now 176 Had a nose radome in front of the bomb bay doors which I'm going to have to try and replicate. It was also in two schemes, no nose numbers and with nose numbers; 176. I may have to stencil these. Also haven't quite made up my mind whether to rescribe or rivet the panels. As for some history on this aircraft, apparently it was only 1 of a few B24s that never flew operationally but remained a trainer for the duration of its service life at Tocumwal before being scrapped. It is the only fuselage of its type left in Australia. Here's the pics so far.

As always Andrew I will be following your progress. I'm looking forward to seeing the Werribee Liberator next month too.

Looking good. I remember when these kits came out. They were considered "Super-Detailed" way back then :) . They're still pretty good.

Andrew, you realise that you've screwed my excuse for NOT getting these 1/48 bombers - that they're too big? That F-111 is just as big & I have one in the stash! :D

Nice progress. A couple of tips:

- The cockpit is bronze green rather than interior green
- 176 is a Ford built M, so has different turrets and canopy framing to the J. Depends how fussy one is re this.
I'm not older than dirt, but I do remember when it was new.

Thanks chaps.

David, I'm aware of the turrret issue but there's not much I can do about this, and the interior colour I tried to match as best I could to images of the Werribee B24 as I could find. I am going to give it another wash which may darken the color a little. My mate for whom this is being built also picked up on the colour which will look darker when all closed up. In fact, for all the detail provided you won't see much of it at all including the interior colour.....a shame really.
