Change to registration method

Postby admin » Wed Aug 03, 2011 6:23 pm

Due to the number of spammers hitting AMI I have changed the method of registering in the froum to require Admin approval. In the last 3 days we have had over 100 spammers try to register and another approx 25 of them suceeded, in fact within 5 minutes of changing the proccess I had a spammer apply.

I will be checking the system regulalry so hopefully I won't have too much of a lag between applicatioon and approval.

I beleive that they are a mixture of both. From the reading I have done on it the spammers have managed to create a program to beat the security screen thing with the letters on it that you need to do for registration. Some of them have also started to add website addresses to their profiles so I think that they have had a person involved there somewhere.

What a pain in the proverbial for you.

Let me know if you need a hand, I think my offer of help with moderator/admin must've gone astray?

I have just deleted pver 100 spammers that were on the system for the last few days, thankfully there were a few real people wanting to join the forum.

Due to the spammers having cracked the Captcha letter anti-spammer form I have now made new applicants answer a question that is modelling related. I don't beleive that the questions are really too hard for a modeller but if you can't answer them then please email me and I shall go from there.
