RAAF Kittyhawk with sharkmouth?

Postby jezza » Tue Oct 15, 2019 1:54 pm

Hi all,

I'm building a RAAF Kittyhawk with blue and white roundels. I also want to add a sharkmouth but have never seen that combination before! I already have one with RAF style roundels in 112 Sqn, but would like to know if shark mouths existed like the one on the Heller boxart. Or is this another blooper?

P-40E-1, Sharkmouth, A29-148, IX, No.76. Sqn, Milne Bay 1942. It was on a DK Decals sheet of P40 in RAAF Others will know more.

Thanks, although a Google picture shows it has a RAF red dot in the roundel on the fuselage.

A29-83 is shown with Sharkmouth in this AWM film-3 minute 45 sec mark. In a forum post long ago it was thought most likely to carry the code letters 'IL' being a 76 Sqn machine at the time.I can't locate the post which I think is in the archives of the earlier version AMI.

Here it is shown at a later date back in Australia- blue/white roundel. It is hard to see if the shark mouth is the same as in the film.

It's just what I'm after. I can't believe posts on this exact topic and that you were able to find them.

thanks again,
