They are generally black or green and there is no guarantee that both blades have the same colour. The blades were swapped occasionally with the only real requirement was that both blades have roughly the same number of hours on them. You can also find other colours on the odd occasion as well as a variety of stripes on them.

Most of the blades I handled were olive drab (various shades) uppers, black undersides, yellow tips. Frequently white stripes on the uppers.

Variations creep in from where the blades were serviced.
I'm not older than dirt, but I do remember when it was new.

The later ones even came white/black uppers for high vis from Bell. We had a few UH-1H blades (main and tail rotor) delivered in this scheme but we repainted a lot in the same green the fuselage used (Medium Green). Some stayed with the white/black tail rotors, too

When I was at 161 doing reserve work in 97 I painted blades green upper and black lower, tail rotors were black and white, I was working at Lloyds on 412's and 214ST's and actually did one lot of main and tail blades over at the Lloyd hangar as we had run out of black and white paint at 161 for the tails, so did a pair or 412 and Kiowa tail blades with Lloyds paint and the mains with Army paint.

As Harv's said you could get mixed colours but if I repainted them it was green upper , black lower, if a machine was going to PNG for altitude training one blade would have white sections painted so it really stood out over the jungle.
