RAAF Macchi pilot recomendations

Postby Bandit » Mon May 13, 2019 2:30 pm

Hi Guys,

Can anyone recommend a suitable pilot figure for a 1/48 RAAF Macchi 2OCU Sqn circa late 70's-80's?

Cheers,

Adam

Hi Adam.

I found the Hasegawa set to be accurate for a 70's-80's RAAF Pilot. I have used these pilots for some of my RAAF Mirage/Macchi builds.

Cheers,

Matt.

First - my recently installed Malwarebytes anti-virus program reported a problem with the graphic above (or how the graphic is displayed). "Attempt to exploit VBR script blocked' is the message from it. Wot means nothing to me - otherwise I'm ignorant.

Anyhooo AFAIK I know in the era mentioned RAN/RAAF Macchi pilots (as well as Miracle) would have worn bright orange coloured MAE West flotation safety/survival vests - perhaps whatever can be seen on the figures above could be painted as such? Over the years from WWII there are many variations on the MAE WEST however the colour remains the same more or less: https://www.google.com/search?q=Mae+Wes ... QDF5cJ4JiM:

1st photo shows RAN/RAAF MAE West (modelled by 'NORDO' LEUT Mike Nordeen USN - went on to Command an USN CVA Aircraft Carrier).

Second photo shows Macchi students at RAAF Pearce.

I have few colour photos of ORANGE colour however many in greyscale showing RAN pilots with MAE WEST (more or less same then). Last photo 1st RAN Macchi pilot (test) having flown the 1st RAN Macchi to NAS Nowra in Oct 1970. Note MaeWest & G-suit and double visor helmet. Then 2nd part has Macchi Pilot wearing the A4G Skyhawk original G-suit (thin - no leg pockets). Whereas most A4G pilots wore the Macchi thick G-suit with leg pockets when these became available. Female passenger only wears Mae West (for the photo one presumes).

Just found this photo. Commodore Norman Lee RAN Pilot was commanding officer of NAS Nowra so this 'last flight' would have been close to his leaving date Aug 1981. http://s3.amazonaws.com/aawfa_images/09 ... macchi.jpg
