Help/advice Acrylic flat finish question

Postby bertielissie » Thu Dec 07, 2017 11:32 am

Hi, I've been using Tamiya acrylics on my 1/48th SE5a and have some bottles of Gunze H20 Flat Clear to spray after decalling and sealing with Tamiya Acrylic Gloss.
My question is should I mix Gunze Flat with water, metho or spray it straight it of the jar undiluted. I used this stuff years ago and seemed to have good results but I've forgotten if /what I diluted it with. I normally use enamel paints and MM Dullcote so I'm keen to see how an acrylic flat works.
Thanks for any tips or advice.

Paul,
I'd probably stick with Gunze's own Acrylic thinner which they call "Aqueous Hobby Color Thinner".
At the moment the Gunze H20 is my choice of Flat Clear and mixed with their own thinner seems to work well.
Gunze also make a Mr Color Levelling thinner which I use with the same brand's Lacquer paints, however have not used this to thin H20 as yet.

Hope this helps... Dave

Hi Paul

Be careful with Gunze flat, in recent times I’ve had a few issues with white spots in the sprayed flat clear regardless of thinning method or consistency. Have used it for years with no method or condition changes but only had these issues in the last 18 months, a mate of mine also has noticed this happening. Spray some test patches first just in case.
