My idea for a Group Build...

Postby TOR » Sun Feb 20, 2011 11:05 am

Hi all,
Now I know this would not be to everyone's taste but my idea/theme for a group build effort would be "Tankers: Air-to-Air Refuelling".
This could include anything from an A-4 with "buddy" refuelling pod on centrline to a KC-747, basicly anything that pumps gas to another aircraft inflight.

This may come as a surprise mate but I like this idea quite alot. Can we make the end date sometime in 2020 due to my build rate LOL
Brother: Do you really need that many Phantoms?
Me: Don't make me kick you outta the shed for asking dumb questions
Brother: But are you gonna build all these models?
Me: Yeah of course I am. Now get outta my shed

You know Paul, you could combine your F-4 love affair with this GB 8-) . I have an article that covers "trials" with the F-4B Tanker. Article includes photos of the trials aircraft with hose deployed etc.
PS: End date 2030 to accomodate for all our build rates. :D

Nah, don't run it Ray. The issue being that no one has room for these said aircraft. I have a KC-135 in 72 scale, but where the hell would I put it once completed?????
On the Bench:
Airfix 1/48 P-51D

Last completed:
Hasegawa 1/48 Typhoon

Well Kev...might I suggest a RAN FAA A-4G with "buddy" refulling pod!!!. That won't take up much room. There is something for everyone with this GB. You think you got problems, I have at least 8 x 1:72 KC-135s (of different variants), 2 x 1:72 KC-97s and 1 x 1:72 707 in the stash all waiting to go.
TOR
PS they don't all have to be 1:72, you can do the larger Tankers in 1:144th or 1:200 :D

Jack,
It's a basic but good little kit, well worth the money, with a heap of potential. If you can get your hands on a Cobra Company KC-97G-to-KC-97L conversion set you can certainly make a good kit much better. The Cobra conversion set comes with much improved resin engines, finely-cast white metal props and other extra radomes etc. It also includes the J-47 jet engine pods, (these were needed so the KC-97 could keep up with F-4s). So buy/build with confidence.

Ta mate. I probably wouldn't worry bout the conversion as it's only a big, lumbering airliner derivative so wouldn't want to put too much effort into it hahahahahaha This group build better go ahead cos I'm off to ebay LOL Got a bit of a thing for NMF at the moment. Not that I'm any good at it but I'll give this a crack :)

I'd play if it was a goer, B707, KC-30, KC-135, KC-97 are all in the build pile.

OK..... well it's looks like we have a bit of interest in a GB themed around air-to-air refuelling.
I have several tanker projects in various stages of production at the moment including:
Glencoe 1:126 Convair UC-880, U.S.Navy
Airfix 1:144 Boeing 707-100, Israel Aircraft Industries demonstrator "XX-707" (cool rego!!)
Hasegawa 1:200 Boeing 747-100, Iranian Air Force
Hasegawa 1:200 Boeing KC-767, RAAF (WIF)
Hasegawa 1:200 Lockheed L1011-500, RAF
Hasegawa/Sasquatch 1:200 VKC-747 SP, RAAF, (WIF)
So I guess the question is "what now" . How do we go forward with this as a GB???
